Business days or calendar days? Reconciling the FedEx International Economy shipping time
FedEx states a transit time of 2 to 5 business days for this service. That figure counts working days from the first network scan, and it excludes weekends, public holidays, and the time between handing a parcel over and its first scan.
The Swotzy numbers below count calendar days from the first FedEx network scan to delivery, weekends and holidays included. That is what your customer experiences: they order on a Friday and count the days on a calendar, not a business-day ledger.
So the two are not in conflict. A median of about 7.3 calendar days to the US and Canada works out to roughly 5 business days once you strip out weekends, which lands at the top of the stated range. The practical point for sellers is simple: quote in calendar days, because that is how buyers read a delivery estimate.
How e-commerce businesses ship with FedEx International Economy through Swotzy
The picture below comes from almost 32,000 shipments created since late 2022. It is a long-haul service in practice: the United States accounts for 81% of volume, Canada for 8%, and Australia for about 2%. Nearly 89% of parcels weigh under 5 kg, so this reads as a lightweight-parcel service for established sellers, most of them shipping from Etsy and Shopify stores.

North America: plan for 7 to 10 days
The United States is the destination that matters most here, and it is reassuringly tight in the middle. The median is 7.4 calendar days and the fast tenth of parcels arrive in 6.2. The slow tenth stretch to 14.2, so a small share really does take two weeks. Canada behaves similarly at the median, 7.3 days, with a tighter slow end of 10.2.
Set your store window: show customers in the US and Canada a 7 to 10 day estimate. That covers the bulk of shipments comfortably and builds in room for the two-week tail, so you avoid the support tickets that come from promising 2 to 5 days.
Asia-Pacific: the fastest long-haul routes
Hong Kong and Singapore both land at a 6.8 day median, and Japan at 7.8, which makes these among the quickest destinations outside North America. They are also predictable: Singapore's slow tenth is only 7.9 days. The United Arab Emirates has a low median of 6.6 days but a wider spread out to 15.3, so a fast typical result comes with occasional longer waits.
Set your store window: 7 to 9 days works for Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. For the UAE, quote a little wider, around 7 to 12 days, to account for the slower tail.
Australia and New Zealand: closer to nine days
Both Australia and New Zealand sit at a 9.3 day median, a step slower than North America and Asia, which fits the distance. The spread is moderate, with the slow tenth around 12.6 to 12.7 days.
Set your store window: promise 9 to 13 days for Oceania and you will be right most of the time.
The distance surprise: some near destinations run slow
It is easy to assume that closer means faster, and the data shows that is not always true. Cyprus and Israel are geographically much nearer than Australia, yet they post the slowest medians in the set, 12.1 and 11.8 days. Israel is especially variable, with a slow tenth reaching 20.6 days, where customs processing is the usual cause of a longer wait. Mexico shows a similar pattern, a 9.4 day median but a slow tenth out to 19.3 days.
Set your store window: for Cyprus, Israel, and Mexico, quote 12 to 16 days to stay on the safe side.
Importing stock? Inbound routes are slower
If you source products rather than sell them, the inbound direction runs longer than the outbound. Parcels coming into the Baltics from the United States show a 13.5 day median, and from China 17.6 days. A large part of that is import customs clearance, which needs specific documentation from you before the parcel can be released. The sooner you respond to any request for import paperwork, the sooner the shipment clears, so keep an eye on it and build the extra time into restocking plans.
How reliably does FedEx International Economy deliver?
Speed is only half the question. The other half is whether the parcel arrives at all. Across all resolved shipments, the delivery rate is 98.4%, which is strong. Because FedEx issues fresh tracking numbers for returns, a delivered status reliably means the recipient received it, so this figure is not padded by returns.

Nearly every major destination clears 97%. Mexico is the clear exception at 84.6%, where roughly one in seven resolved shipments did not complete delivery, most likely tied to customs or recipient-side complications. Saudi Arabia sits a little low at 92.7% on a smaller sample. If you ship regularly to Mexico, factor that risk in and lean on accurate customs paperwork to reduce holds.
What the data tells you
Read together, the numbers point to a clear job for this service. FedEx International Economy is the value choice for non-urgent parcels going long haul, and it delivers dependably in about a week to the destinations sellers use most. If a customer needs a parcel in three days, FedEx International Priority is the better fit and worth the premium. If speed does not matter and cost does, this service earns its place.
Two habits will keep your customers happy. Quote in calendar days, using the 7 to 10 day guidance for North America and adjusting up for slower destinations. And plan for the longer tail on the routes that run slow, so a two-week arrival never comes as a surprise.
