Severe weather conditions have led to the cancellation of all flights to Madeira, affecting the transportation of mail and parcel shipments to the region.
Currently, there is an estimated 3.5-ton backlog of shipments to Madeira due to the flight cancellations. Additionally, the postal operator PTA is experiencing difficulties sending mail to the Azores, where approximately 1 ton of shipments is awaiting dispatch.
Shipments are being forwarded as transport capacity becomes available, and deliveries will resume gradually as operations stabilize.
As of March 4, 2026, shipments to the following countries and territories are temporarily suspended: Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Afghanistan, Palestine, Sudan, and Brunei Darussalam.
We will provide updates on any changes as they become available.
Poste Italiane has informed Union member countries and their designated operators that several Italian unions have confirmed a 24-hour strike involving the aviation and airport sectors. The strike will commence at 00:01 CET (UTC+1) on 26 February 2026.
As a result of the industrial action, there is a risk of flight cancellations, delays, and disruptions to airport services across Italy. Consequently, all postal product categories may experience operational delays.
Poste Italiane has stated that mitigation measures will be implemented at its facilities to minimize the impact. However, depending on the level of participation in the strike, disruptions may continue in the days following the strike date.
Further information on scheduled strikes (in Italian) is available via the official Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport website.
